Government Layoffs
The Wall Street Journal reports the the US Post Office will cut 7,500 managers and close seven district offices.
www.glendalenewspress.com reports NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab to lay off up to 200 scientists or engineers in La Cañada Flintridge, Southern California
www.ktvn.com reports that the Reno City Council has authorized the layoffs of 100 employees to help deal with a budget shortfall. 381 positions have been eliminated in the last two years, reducing city staff to about 1,240.
KUT News Austin reports that the Austin School Board Approves 485 Job Cuts, mostly teachers. The layoffs are expected to save the district $26.5 million dollars. That’s only about one-quarter of the projected budget shortfall.
